ABSTRACT

Estuarine aquaculture in the coastal belt plays a key role in food security, production and supply chain. In the current COVID scenario, an efficient, sustainable and contactless system is the need of the hour, to keep up with the rising demands for food. Estuarine aquaculture involves culturing of fish species in a controlled environment so as to meet the increased demands. This requires continuous monitoring of the controlled environment which results in a labor-intensive proposition at the site. To simplify the task of the aquaculture farmers, the proposed solution named as 'Estuarine-Star' ensures that the entire site of aquaculture is maintained autonomously without the presence of the farmer at the site. The system comprises of 5 underwater sensors connected in the form of a star placed at strategic points in the site. These strategically placed underwater sensors sense the environmental parameters and through edge computing take appropriate actions to maintain an optimal environment. The data is also stored on the cloud. Furthermore, a camera system captures the underwater view of the fishes to study and understand the behavior of the fishes. This will help in taking targeted actions when abnormality in parameters is detected. The system ensures optimal conditions for rearing of fish thereby providing sustainable and profitable growth for the farmers. The interactive application hosted on cloud makes use of real time parameters and live video for alert generation and recommendations. © 2021 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

The post-COVID-19 era redefines safety and security for all of us. With increasing population, higher rate of unemployment and faster pace of life, we need a solution that can ensure safety as well as peace of mind for the family and their home. The proposed solution Home Shanti provides an integrated and holistic home management system which autonomously and remotely monitors the home without physical presence. It makes use of edge computing mechanisms to take on-board decisions via interaction with the sensors in the IoT environment. Smart home security is offered with a network of specific sensors. In addition, safety of the residents is taken care of in various regions of the house. The system is in constant touch with the owner through cloud, remote monitoring and real-time decision making. Hence, Home Shanti is the perfect solution for the safety and security of urban and rural home environments and its family, truly a ‘shanti’ peace of mind for the homeowner and his/her family. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

The technology in agriculture, can help farmers especially in the time of COVID pandemic, where there is shortage of labor and increasing demand for food. The technology solution can effectively and reliably improve crop yield through automated process and Agrocopter. The Agrocopter, an autonomous drone with modular systems and on-board image processing helps in holistic crop management throughout the farm. Agrocopter comes with targeted crop spraying, nutrient dropping and seed sowing modules, that can work in sync with the process of crop life cycle from sowing till harvesting. The drone with edge computing module performs periodic farm surveillance and plant health analysis using combination of NDVI (Normalized difference vegetation index) and semantic segmentation based classification to take targeted actions. It makes use of filter banks and SVM (Support Vector Machine) classifier algorithm to carry out pixel wise stitched image analysis to compute plant health indices in real time. Being very easy to operate and maintain, it can seamlessly be integrated into the farm systems and work along-side humans. It also has a completely modular design with plug and play architecture. What sets Agrocopter apart is its wide variety of applications, reliability and precision all at an affordable cost. Hence, Agrocopter is the perfect aerial farm assistant for today's farmer. © 2021 IEEE.
